Superintendent Kevin Maxwell, Mrs. Stacey Jones, and School Board President Enrique Melendez at the recognition ceremony for teachers who received National Board Certification on December 17, 2008

Dear Mrs. Jones:

Congratulations on behalf of the staff for your achievement to National Board Certification by being a highly accomplished educator.

Your longstanding commitment to the school community and this recent certification as a middle childhood generalist make us proud to have you on our staff.

Keep up the good work. We need more people like you to prepare our students with the skills they need to compete in the 21st century workplace.

Sincerely,

S. Bachmann
Principal

Like board-certified doctors and accountants, teachers who achieve National Board Certification have met rigorous standards through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment and peer review.
National Board Certification is a voluntary assessment program designed to recognize and reward accomplished teachers. While state licensing systems set basic requirements to teach in each state, NBCTs have successfully demonstrated advanced teaching knowledge, skills and practices. Certification is achieved through a rigorous, performance-based assessment that typically takes one to three years to complete.

Generalist/Middle Childhood
This certificate is appropriate for teachers who teach students ages 7-12 and who know the range of the middle-grades curriculum: language arts, mathematics, science, social studies and history, the arts and health. Some generalists are assigned to teach a single subject, while others are assigned multiple subjects (e.g., humanities teachers or mathematics/science teachers). Some focus on interdisciplinary or cross-disciplinary lessons, while others may use such curricular approaches only occasionally. All generalists, without regard to their assignment, practice in a manner designed to advance student learning in two or more subjects.
